Late this afternoon some Gypsies moved onto the land immediately adjacent the ‘airplane’ estate at the far end of Rugby Road.
Liberal Democrat Councillors immediately made contact with the Gypsies, in concert with Council officers, and determined that these Gypsies were those that camp here every year for a one night stay.
These are traditional gypsies, replete with traditional caravans, who camp here every year overnight, on their way to a horse fair in Stowe-On-The-Wolde.
Ever year these travellers clean up after themselves and leave no trace of their presence.
Liberal Democrat Councillors informed local residents of the situation, and many came out onto the doorstep to thank us for keeping them all informed so promptly.

As you may have read in the Hinckley Times, Liberal Democrats councillors are leading a campaign to force the Government and the Conservative-led Regional Assembly to reduce the numbers of houses and travellers sites that are being forced on our area.
Central and Regional Officials want us to allocate space for 11,700 houses and 42 permanent travellers pitches. We think this is madness. If you agree, sign our petition and return it to our freepost address. Alternatively, you can sign our petition online by visiting www.bosworthlibdems.org.uk.

Residents are shocked and angered by suggestions by the Conservative Leader on the Borough Council that there should be 21 travellers pitches “in and around Hinckley.”
Liberal Democrat Councillors strongly argued that with the large Aston Firs off Sapcote Road on Hinckley’s doorstep our area has got its fair share.
The Council is being forced by law to allocate 42 permanent traveller pitches across Hinckley and Bosworth. Despite Government guidelines, Liberal Democrat councillors have argued that these should be away from existing communities - which is also the preference of the travelling community.

Liberal Democrat Councillors have been in touch with the Highways Department after local residents have expressed concerns about traffic movements around both the Tesco store on London Road and the one on Hawley Road. “We are asking officers to look at ways of making the entrances to both stores easier,” said Cllr Bron Witherford.

Since 2005 Conservative Councillors have increased home care charges by a staggering 40% per hour. The maximum weekly charge has more than trebled from £50 to £180.
Conservative bossed had planned another inflation-busting increase this year but were shamed into a u-turn by a campaign by local Liberal Democrat councillors.
With rising food and fuel costs, and only small increases in the state pension many people simply will not be able to afford these increased costs. Liberal Democrats think it is wrong to hit some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

Liberal Democrat Councillors are calling for an urgent review into the winter gritting undertaken by County Hall. Many residents have told us they have been almost housebound as roads and pavements on estate roads have not been gritted.
Conservative County Hall bosses have been criticised for cutting the winter maintenance budget over recent years which has meant that many areas have been left untreated.
Cllrs Stuart Bray and Keith Lynch are now calling on the County Council to carry out an urgent review and make sure more roads are gritted during wintry weather.

Liberal Democrat Councillors Stuart Bray and Keith Lynch are concerned over reports that the bus services linking the town centre and the Hollycroft Estate could be reduced. We are pressing the bus companies and County Hall for more answers and we will report back as soon as we have more information.

Liberal Democrat Councillors are calling on the Labour Government and Conservative dominated Regional Assembly to reduce the number of houses and travellers sites being forced on Hinckley and Bosworth.
The Borough Council is being forced to allocate land for over 11,000 new houses and 42 travellers pitches by the Government and Regional Assembly.
Lib Dems believe that in the current economic climate where few new houses are being built it is madness to be forcing so many new homes on our area.
Our area also has more than its fair share of travellers sites but we are being forced to allocate more when Conservative areas like Blaby and Melton are getting away lightly. We think this is unfair.
